Memory Verse: Acts 4:33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.
The commission given to the disciples to evangelize the world must have seemed overwhelming. There were only 120 of them present for that immense assignment. Imagine your church being given the task of reaching the entire world . . . without the tools of radio, television and literature that we have come to take for granted.
Still, when the day of Pentecost arrived, they were endued with the power of the Holy Spirit and three thousand were saved that day. Multitudes more were converted in the weeks that followed. Meek men became mighty preachers due to the power of God within them. Nothing could shake them . . . and they shook the world.
Their secret? The power of the Holy Spirit.
Every Christian has the Holy Spirit dwelling within: "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's" (I Corinthians 6:19-20). "But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his" (Romans 8:9).
So let us get busy witnessing. We need not depend on our abilities or our personal power . . . God will work through us in reaching others.
The friends of Mary Slessor, missionary in Africa, were amazed when they saw that she had been able to mold savage chiefs to her will. One of the chiefs explained: "You have evidently forgotten to take into account the woman's God."
