2-25-07 An Inheritance "1 Peter 1:1-10"

Memory Verse: 1 Peter 1:4: To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.

You may have dreamed of inheriting a fortune.
Here is something better.

You can become in heir of God . . . a joint heir with Jesus Christ . . . the owner of an inheritance that awaits in heaven.

Now what is the condition?

You must become a child of God through faith in Jesus Christ. There is a common misconception that all are the children of God and all therefore going to heaven. It isn't so.

Who then are the children of God? Those who receive the Lord Jesus as personal Saviour: "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name" (John 1:12). Being careful to rule out any false assurance, the Bible adds: "Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God" (John 1:13). That is no one becomes a child of God because he is born into a certain family, because he performs certain good works, or receives supposed forgiveness from some religious authority.

To believe -- to receive -- is an act of faith. Those who become children of God do so as a result of faith in Christ. Today is a good day to become a child of God. Here is a prayer to aid you. "DEAR LORD JESUS, I COME TO YOU JUST AS I AM, A SINNER. I TURN FROM MY SIN TO YOU. I NOW TAKE YOU BY FAITH AS MY OWN SAVIOUR AND LORD. I TRUST YOU TO SAVE ME BY YOUR SHED BLOOD AND GUIDE ME IN THE CHRISTIAN LIFE. IN YOUR NAME. AMEN!"
