1-18-07 1 Peter 1:22,23

Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.

1 Peter 1:22,23

There is an old poem, "Tribute," that has been put to music that has so much in it that is good:

I love you, not only for what you are
But for what I am when I am with you.
I love you, not only for what you have made of yourself,
But for what you are making of me.
I love you for the part of me that you bring out.

I love you for putting your hand into my heaped-up heart
And passing over all my foolish, weak things
That you can't help dimly seeing there,
And for drawing out into the light all the beautiful belongings
That no one else had looked quite far enough to find.

I love you for ignoring the possibilities of the fool
And weakling in me, and for laying firm hold
On the possibilities of good in me.

I love you for closing your eyes to the discords in me,
And for adding to the music in me
By worshipful listening.

I love you because you are helping me to make the
Lumber of my life not a tavern, but a temple
And the words of my every day, not a reproach,
But a song.

I love you because you have done more than any
Creed could have done to make me good,
More than any fate could have done to make me happy.
You have done it just by being yourself.
Perhaps that is what being a friend means after all.

It is surely what being happily married means. Don't lose heart. Don't forget those silent, strong multitudes of women who whole heartedly believe in marriage in its fullest and have given their lives happily to it, only to find themselves whole and complete, holding up a tottering world.
Quite a challenge! Quite a partnership! There are many women nonetheless who are doing just that, because they have a commitment---a commitment to duty, a commitment to excellence!
